It has been rumored for many years that Walt Disney World and Lucas Films were going to conduct a major overhaul on Star Tours, located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Well, after the announcement came last year, it was official the refurbishment was finally going to happen. But when?

Several times were suggested for the project to begin, but then there was no official word or date set. Now Star Wars fans have only a little more than three months to hope on Star Tours as it is today. Disney announced yesterday that they will be beginning the refurbishment on Star Tours on Sept. 8, transforming the ride into Star Tour 2 3-D.

Check back for more details on the refurbishment of Star Tours and do not forget Star Wars Weekends coming up later this month at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Star Wars Weekends 2010 will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the following weekends: May 21-23; May 28-30; June 4-6 and June 11-13.
