Return To Oz – 1985

Return to Oz is a film produced by Walt Disney Pictures as a follow up to the original MGM film The Wizard of Oz in 1985. No approval was necessary from MGM to make the sequel because all of the L. Frank Baum’s novels from which the film was based were in the public domain by the year it was produced. The film was directed by  Walter Murch and received mixed reviews from public and critics. It didn’t fare well at the box office but has attracted since its release date many devoted fans turning the film into a sort of small cult movie.

The plot is a combination of two novels, Ozma of Oz and The Marvelous Land of Oz, both of which were written as sequels to the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The film takes place around Halloween 1899, a few months after the events told in The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy Gale, played by Fairuza Balk, can’t stop thinking about her journey and her friends: Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman and Cowardly Lion.

The Nightmare Before Christmas – 1993

Soundtrack is composed by Danny Elfman who also plays the singing voice of main character Jack Skeleton. Nightmare Before Christmas was originally released by Disney on their Touchstone Pictures logo due to the dark and sinister content of the plot. After the incredible success the movie has had and keeps having through the years Disney re-released the restaured Digital 3D version of the film in 2006 under their main Walt Disney Pictures logo.
